    1890 Lee Metford Mk 1 * DP

    Hey gents,
I have the opportunity to buy a Lee Metford Mk 1* that has been down graded to Drill Purpose. It's a real barn find, and while not in really great shape ( light pitting on metal parts) it is totally original, complete and un messed with. Does it sound like its worth $800 Canadianicon?

    Cheers,

    M.

If it still has all the major pieces and some finish left than it is a find. Most MLM Mk I*'s available to collectors today are DP marked as they were the first issue rifle with a magazine, thus were reused to death. I would jump on it and post pic's for us to see!!

Also, the bolt is not matching, which is usually a no-go for me.

None of my MLM Mk I*'s have a matching bolt, you will be waiting for a long time to find one that does match. If the rifle is common, in my opinion, than a matching bolt is a must; but if it is hard to find example I do not let it bother me. Remember, you can always upgrade later

If you turn it down, you may wait years before finding another.

I snagged it! It will arrive at my house while I'm away at sea for the next month, so I'll have a box to tear open when I return. I'll put up some pictures if I can ever figure out how....

Agree. If you're going to wait for a matching one, you might wait a long time! I've only seen two in 25 years of collecting........ Dying to see pictures!
