Need a shop to refinish 1866 Trapdoor rifle. Would like someone who is good with doing period, military refinishing. Thanks, Randy

Maybe try asking on the trapdoor site.

A '66 doesn't really have much metal "finish". More "bright" than anything. The hinge and some of the lock parts were oil blackened in heat treat, but I don't recall much else. Files, rocks and pumice ought to do for most work. But I tend to say "no" to refinishing, generally.

The lock plates were originally casehardened(in 1863-1864), but typically by now they are bright.
