A Collector's View - The SMLE Short Magazine Lee Enfield 1903-1989. It is 300 8.5x11 inch pages with 1,000+ photo’s, most in color, and each book is serial-numbered. Covering the SMLE from 1903 to the end of production in India in 1989 it looks at how each model differs and manufacturer differences from a collecting point of view along with the major accessories that could be attached to the rifle. The AAC stamp is from Augusta Arsenal, it is an overhaul and rebuild stamp.

Start by giving the serial number, or the first few digits, at least. The barrel was made at Springfield Armory in March, 1929. The P on the barrel indicates the rifle barrel passed a proof-firing test (same with the P stamp just aft of the trigger guard.

Pictures would be appreciated. If the serial number matches the barrel (1,290,000 range) the receiver was originally made at Rock Island and sent to Springfield in the mid-1920s.

Your receiver is indeed one that started out as a rough forging or a complete, but unmarked receiver from Rock Island.

Most of the markings you identify are unknown subinspection markings.

Here's a similar rifle with "interesting" markings on the receiver!

Look CAREFULLY at the receiver markings!
