    Any Kiwi gunsmiths for smle's?

Hi all, just need to have a scoped smle checked for bore alignment, cana nyone recomend an NZicon located gunsmith who'd be good at this?

ps my apologies for a prolonged absence and recently not answering messages, my mum died a few weeks ago after a long illness, I never knew how overwhelming a caregivers duties can be, not to mention being family as well.

Surely what you're talking about RJW is a simple optical test isn't it? Welcome back by the way...... You could do that checking yourself on a bench at a distant aiming point couldn't you? Or am I missing something in the telling?

    Hi Peter,
Its a 1907 with an old tapped on with three screws Field? type mount with slide on/off scope. Been trying to zero the scope lately and while one expects point of aim changes with distance, I shouldn't be getting left/right changes. If I zero at 60 yards then go up to 75 yards the shots fall 6 inches to the left and if I pull back to 45 yards the shots fall to the right. It looks like the scope is canted across the bore line.

The mounting screws are inaccurately centered to the mount, plus the receiver exterior wall under it is not flat but has a subtle curve along its length, so the scope mount area isn't on a flat or level surface. I was hoping a gunsmith could re drill and tap to correct any problems.
On the other hand you may have given me an idea, I could hang two vertical reference marks, one at the limit of my distance here and one halfway, the vertical alignment to the scope post should be the same despite the distance, perhaps I can find a level area while keeping the verticals aligned.
