    Cool Ammo for Remington1903-A3

    Greetings from a new member....
Is ammunition that is designated for an M1icon Garand ok to use in a Remington 1903-A3?
Has anyone used: PRVI 30-06 Springfield 150 gr. SP 20 rnd/box ammo? Not sure if the manufacture is PRVI Partizan or PPU...might be the same outfit? And, what is meant by "ball" ammo?
I am looking for some range ammunition that has NO steel in it.

    Thanks,

    LRMars

    Yes.
    Yes.
    Yes, same guys........great ammo.
Ball ammo has a basically inert projectile. It doesn't trace, flame, explode.........just puts a neat .308 hole in stuff.
Steel cased, jacketed, or cored ammo will all stick to a magnet. You can't always be sure what bit of the ammo is steel, but if any bits attract a magnet it does contain at least one steel component.

Privi is Serbian. Good range ammo. I use it for my Enfield, A303, and Garandicon. It also reloads well. Neck size for the.303 & A303. Try www.ammoseek.com for places with good prices.

Ok...so I ordered 30-06 ammo and the box says Prvi Partizan .30-06 Springfield (M1icon Garand) 150 Gr. Full Metal Jacket, will this ammo function properly and SAFELY in my Remington 1903-A3 bolt action rifle?

    Thanks,

    LRMars

I shoot Korean KA arsenal M2 ball in my 1903. There is some of that for sale on the web now. In good condition, its very accurate and functions great. Corrosive primers so I clean with water based solution after shooting, but in a bolt gun thats not a problem. I believe mine has a copper jacket, but you have to check or ask before you buy any.

Garandicon rated ammo is lower pressure to protect the gas operating system. A properly functioning A303 will be just fine. Mine likes Hornady Superformance 168 gr A-Max, which is too hot for the Garand. Black Hills Match ammo is good too. The Privi is good range ammo, not match grade.
Check out the search function here and you will find all kinds of info about ammo and misurps.

Garandicon ammo is a lower pressure? No it is not lower pressure. All 30-06 FMJ loaded for USGI use in WW2, Korea and Viet Nam was loaded to the same pressure range no matter if it was used in an 03, a BAR , 1919 or a Garand. The Garand does need a specific powers for the proper pressure at the port so all of the ammo was loaded to Garand spec.

The first 'Yes' in my first post was my answer to you. Again.........yes, you can shoot it happily in your 03A3.

Both are correct. It was a design spec to help considerably with the logistics of producing, transport, storing, etc of one type of ammo to be used in several gun types....

They did the same with .45 ammo. Thompson, grease guns, 1911's/ 1911A1s, and even the FP-45 Liberators dropped into Franceicon all used it.

PS - different suject, but I've seen video of soldiers firing BAR's and wonder what the recoil whould be like in full auto!

Harlan The BAR being approximately 18 pounds and being a gas piston operating gun most of the recoil was reduced to manageable levels. I also understand from men who used them that it had two cycle rates of fire and most used the slower cycle rate to reduce the muzzle climb.
