    Current values of Gew 98

Sadly I don't have pictures to share, but I'm trying to get a sense - a range - of current values for Gew 98 rifles in Canadaicon.

The example I'm looking at purchasing is a bolt-mismatch (all other parts match) of a pretty common manufacturer, 1915-dated. Still has the Lange rear sight, and all markings are visible on the woodwork. I'm looking to trade up from my bolt-mismatch, 1906 DWM which, sadly, had the stock sanded at some point in its life.

Most Gew 98 rifles I have seen with the mismatched bolts tend to sell somewhere 750-1000$ as a rough area.

Thanks for this. Pending any other input, so I can get a couple more data points, this helps as a start.

P&S Militaria currently has two in stock which are both mismatched but otherwise as you described, ones 850$ and the other is 995$. They tend to be pretty fair with there prices so it is a good benchmark to work around.

I acquired a GEW98 made by Schilling of SUHL, dated 1916. It is probably 90% matching. The stock is a mismatch, but most of the metal parts are matching. The bore is VG. How common or uncommon is a Schilling 98?

Thanks Eaglelord...I've bought several firearms from P&S and agree that their prices are pretty good guidance. Those ones haven't moved for a bit, though, so I'm wondering if the market is a little softer than that.

Mailman...I might suggest you head over to the Gunboards forum site and visit the Military Mauser forum there. There are folks on that site who have built databases about Gews who should be able to help. I do think, though that you have a relatively rare example.
