Hello, new to this forum and I can't believe how much great information is available here. As a member of the Garand icon

forum I see some of the folks here also. Being somewhat new to the 03 I have a question. I see a Remington receiver marked Model 1903 sn: 3352548 , The rifle is an 03A3. Is this normal for a rifle in that serial number range?

I have also seen at least one M1903A3 marked with M1903 markings. Keep in mind that at this time, Remington was transitioning from M1903s to M1903A3s (a period that lasted several months) and I'm not surprised that an "oops" of this nature happened. If that particular rifle is for sale, I'd certainly be interested!!

You're sure it is marked "Remington Model 1903" on the receiver (not "03-A3") and has a 03A3 rear sight?

Interesting! As I told you, I've seen the "other way round" (a Remington 1903A3 receiver in a Remington '03 set-up.

This wasn't done by someone was it? After the fact sort of thing? Why are there holes in the right side of the charger bridge for a receiver sight...?

I checked with John Beard icon

after the pictures were posted, and unfortunately, we decided it was not an "armory" rifle, but a modification of a regular Remington M1903. A former civilian owner installed a M1903A3 rear sight. John pointed out that the receiver bridge on a M1903A3 is wider than this one is. I noticed that there appears to be no dovetail on the receiver bridge. The rear sight was "set" on the receiver bridge, possibly being soldered on.

Obviously, closer pictures might prove this for sure.
