    Whitneyville Armory ???

New to this site and looking for info. I just acquired this rifle at an auction and I can't find
any info about it. It's 38" long with a 21" round rifled barrel, weighs 5 lbs., brass furniture except the only barrel band is steel, percussion, stamped in small letters on top of the barrel is WHITNEYVILLE ARMORY CT USAicon 45-60. No other markings. Any information you
guy's can give would be appreciated. Thanks

Well how about SOME GOOD PHOTOS?

You are a new contributor, so one must be understanding. But truly, we receive again and again requests on the lines of "I have a gun what it it?". Words are insufficient, especially as the questioner does not have the knowledge to describe precisely what he has - which is why, of course, he is asking the question!

For instance, you write that it is marked 45-60. So it must be a cartridge rifle. So it cannot be a percussion rifle.

In other words, we need information that is independent of the questioner - and that means deeds (photos) not words!

OK, enough constructive criticism Post some photos, and you will soon know pretty precisely what you have. Most likely one of the Whitney or Whitney-Laidley Rolling Blocks in carbine form. This could be original or a later cut-down.

As I have a Whitney myself, help will come pretty fast IF YOU PROVIDE SOME PHOTOS

Most important: an overall view, any markings, and the receiver from both sides. reasonably close up, within the limits of your camera - smaller but clear is better than larger but fuzzy!

"No other markings." There may be more that you have not yet seen. Underneath the barrel and on the tangs. Remove the wood and look again!
