Lazer etched ammo???? Is this true???

A few days ago I was in a local gun shop. The owners and a few customers were discussing an allegedly passed isuue with ammo. Allegations are, hidden within the recently passed bailout bill was a provision that prohibits, after 2010, any imported ammo, AND that domestic ammo shells and projectiles must have a lazer'd sn, also after 2010.
Naturally I asked for the page number and paragraph for this provision. The owner said he had a call into the NRA and was waiting for a response.

    Has anyone else seen this?

There is no such provision in the bailout bill, but the inventor of the process has pushed it in several states with no results. I don't think even the Brady gang is promoting it.

The inventor (I forget his name) admitted to the MD committee that he didn't care a whit about crime and that his goal was to enrich himself.

The proposal goes along these lines:

The interior of all cartridge cases and the bases of all bullets would be marked with a serial number, using a laser etching process. The manufacturer would be required to have a new number for each case/bullet, the numbers of the rounds to be placed on the box. The manufacturer, distributor and dealer would track each serial number as is done for firearms by serial number.

The cost would be enormous, but that would reduce ammunition sales. The government would keep records and that cost would be financed from a $5 per round tax on ammunition.

All unmarked ammunition and all reloading equipment and supplies would be illegal and would have to be turned in. The government would issue a blanket search warrant to search any and all homes for illegal ammunition; possession would be a felony, with a minimum of ten years in prison.

The inventor and promoter denies that his idea would infringe on the Second Amendment, which he says concerns only guns and which he supports for hunting guns. (Sound like anyone we know?)

He was shown a tape of an ammunition plant after he stated that the process would take only about 10-20 seconds per round. He said he had no idea that much ammunition was made and that he might make an exception for the military and police.

    Jim

    Sir:

On behalf of Pond Scum everywhere, I take objection to your statement!

Pond Scum just sits in a pond, looking green and not bothering anyone.

Our Fearless Leader, on the other hand, would make a great model for the Sears catalog, and doesn't have the brains that God gave Pond Scum.

And Pond Scum isn't trying to take away our guns!
