Need some help...Enfield experts im looking at you.

So I bought this No4 MK 1 (top rifle in pic) from my friend for $50 the problem I have is that the previous owner before him removed the rear handguard and retaining ring to put a scope on the rifle.
I have a replacement ring and a matching piece of wood, How do i put the ring on? I tried to slide it over the front sight and that's not happening. Do I have to remove the front sight then? If so can someone explain that process to me? Or does someone have link to a thread showing this with photos? Are there special tools i need, if so can someone provide me a link for a place to buy tools, i've been searching for answers and im lost.

Ya, you should remove the front sight to fit it onto the barrel to do it properly.

OR, a dodge that I use is (I should duck the incoming for suggesting this), cut the ring at the bottom, put it on and repair the cut with braise or silver solder.

Remove the protector, that'll be enough.

To do it properly, remove the protector AND the foresight blade and it'll wiggle over

That yellow paint just tells the dealer selling the rifle, through dampened eyes and a lump in his throat that it is a historic rifle from from the Dublin Police

That **** ring! If they´d made it from a different type of steel, it´d most likely be a bit more squashable. Heating it to solder only makes it more brittle. Is there really no way of getting iut over a No. 5 front sight? I´m sure some clever Chinese could use a magical slight of hand to do the job.

I was going to mention No5's Villiers. When we used to replace then, and it was a regular occurrence as they used to rust out at the bottom, we would yank the old one off of course and with a new one, just snip it at the bottom with a pair of wire cutters. If you use a hacksaw it will shorted it when you come to join the ends up.

Put snipped new ring onto barrel - making sure it's the right way around - walk down to welders shop and ask the welder to gas weld the two slightly tapered snipped ends together. Take an armfull of rifles so that you can spend an hour or so there. Have a cup of tea and a snack/runny crisps from the Char-wallah, and put the world to rights just in time for lunch or knock-off time!

Could do that Peter. The welders´college is attached to the technical university not far from where I live and the prof in charge likes to create ear bleeding carnage in the cellar with my No. 5. (The tip about snipping instead of using a hacksaw (dremel) was of great value)
