Gentlemen!

Some time ago I found on the Flickr two interesting photo's with mounts, which I never see before -

Are where standard or locally made? When they introduced in service? I think that purpose of trailers mount - AAD. Was in British Army special AA sight for L7GPMG in 60-70th?

They were called LARCH POLE mounts. I seem to recall that there were a few different variables for use as a ground mount or a vehicle mount as shown.

The photos are interesting as they are obviously taken in the Far East - and I suspect Hong Kong as the Brits (before they left in '68), Aust and NZ all had '44 pattern webbing and our man is wearing '58 patt so far as I can see (feel free to correct me) Additionally, the gun shows the much later 'balance mark'. Sop I'd say Hong Kong/Borneo.

The Land Rover number plate would tell us. But to be fair, thank christ none of the baddies in that neck of the woods had air support

There were a few different prismatic and reflector type AA sights tried and tested but the best was to keep both eyes open and use tracer, aiming 30 'apparent' aircraft lengths ahead. Which, so I was told, by dint of mathematical mystery meant the best chances of a hit. And, no, I didn't believe it either!

The water bottle and pouch in the first picture (back view) is a 44 pattern, but he could have mixed kit.

Didn't a Booty on-board ship, shoot down an Argentine aircraft by simply pointing a GPMG into the sky and letting the aeroplane fly through the rounds?

His shirt is a standard UK flannel type KF shirt instead of our UK/Aust issue, shirts JG - or jungle green. Cross-straps are '58
