    A Collector's View - The SMLE Short Magazine Lee Enfield 1903-1989. It is 300 8.5x11 inch pages with 1,000+ photo’s, most in color, and each book is serial-numbered. Covering the SMLE from 1903 to the end of production in India in 1989 it looks at how each model differs and manufacturer differences from a collecting point of view along with the major accessories that could be attached to the rifle. For the record this is not a moneymaker, I hope just to break even, eventually, at $80/book plus shipping. In the USA shipping is $5.00 for media mail. 35thou is a bit short, 50thou more like it.

    Love how Bruce says you "select a striker", me I have been looking for a spare for well over a year with no joy, like Hen's teeth...

    The striker for a no.1 and no.4 do not have the same thread, so it's important to know what striker you are after. As Bruce in Oz noted earlier on:
    "Check that you indeed have the correct pattern of striker. Both SMLE and No4 are .250" diameter and have "fine" threads. HOWEVER: SMLE thread is 1/4" x30 TPI "Enfield Special"; No4 is 1/4" x 26."

    Warpig, you surprise me (thread 7………..) RGE0012, please listen to me……….. There is more to fitting a new striker than you think or are being lead to believe. You CAN do it, so can everyone else but the striker and bolt head together control 7 important aspects of CORRECTLY setting up a bolt the correct way.

    PLEASE read and then read again a short article wot I writ a year or so ago about how to do it properly including the permissible overturn (affected by the striker) lift (affected by the striker) and so on and so on. Including the all important firing pin protrusion of between .040 low and .050 high.

    Sorry........One has to do what one has to do when there aren't bins of parts about. I'd have already chucked this striker in a drill, polished it and be giving a report back by now, all for free.

    I appreciate that warping. The same applies when people feel that they want to screw-on a larger bolt head for reasons that they and I don't quite understand!!!!! It's not quite that simple. There's MUCH more to it than that and……. You know what I mean and bang on about!

    I have just heard (at a US gun show) that the true way to increase striker protrusion is to machine the face of the bolt head back '…..a bit'. I'm learning……...

    Firing pin protrusion specification
    Minimum = .040
    Maximum = .050
