    I'd want to call the A3 an M4 but it seems that's not completely correct...but then you can get variations on that including and open bolt version I guess...so technically I guess...From top to bottom: M16A1, M16A2, M4A1, M16A4

    On That page it does say the M4 is a Variant cause it's the same caliber, your correct.

    Well, technically, there is only one carbine in the OP's picture as the top two and bottom one are rifles.

    Here is a carbine I have that is awaiting the tax stamp to install the correct moderator.
