    What is this Ammo?

My eldest just strolled in with 120 of these 7.62+39. What are they?

Plus, 1000rds of Wolf 7.62+39, 500rds of .380, 50rds .06 and countless shot shells slugs and 00 buck. Plus tons of loose rounds I have to dig through plus the ammo cans!! A friends Grandfather passed and the family has no need for any of it.

Its East Germanicon. Steel core, AP. Packaged for border guards. 1980's, not very common. Super accurate 7.62x39.

This is pretty cool, as I saw a couple of those rounds at my LGS today and I was wondering what was up with it. I knew it was 7.62x39 but I was thrown off by the round nose.

That's what I thought. It's Extremely lightweight compared to a standard round.

After further Google-fu it is in fact training ammo. Nylon core steel jacket hence the light weight.

If you don't want them, id pay you to buy them and ship them to me. If you want PM me. Ive been looking for some. There aren't any here in eastern Ontario.

This is correct, it depends on which tip they have. The pointy tip is Steel core, the round tip is the NC (Nylon Core) which I believe is what the OP has.

I wouldn't want to get hit by this stuff, the use of this ammo is debated, it may have been used for training, but I know it was given to East Germanicon border guards (yours is still packaged in the border guard packs.) to shoot anybody escaping or entering illegally. Very interesting history to this ammo. I would keep it, as they really aren't making more.

It wasn't for sale at the LGS, it was just behind the counter maybe 4 or 5 rounds, nothing like a crate or anything.

A few more goodies. 9rds 8+56r dated 1938 with two strippers I think are for M95 Steyr and 20rds banned Norinco 7.62+39 dated 88. Plus there was an additional 250rds of .380 which brings the total to 750rds. Now to see about his guns......

The mannlicher clips will work in the M95s, but they are the earlier 1888/90 style clips not the later version (which 1938 ammo should be on). Still a cool find, I have about 150rds of 8x56r surplus kicking around somewhere, in the range of 1937-1938. What I really like about this ammo is it shows the change in power clearly as it has the months dated on the top of the case, and one month it has the Austrian Eagle and the next month it has the Nazi Eagle.
