When I had my Arisaka I used 150grn .311dia pulled 7.62x54r bullets and it worked great. I was only playing around at 100m but I had no complaints in regards to the accuracy of the rifle.
I wouldn't really worry about breaking anything on the Arisaka, they were very strong rifles which not much could go wrong on.

They do pretty well in the woods and on bullseye targets. Far better "practical" sight than the '03 Springfield, which also had that "far forward" rear peep feature.

Eaglelord17 - thanks for the reply about bullet size. Given your note plus load data in at least the Hodgdon manual, will try the .311 bullet. I'm only interested in comparing and contrasting how well it shoots at 100 yards with my 1903s, Enfields, 91/30 and K98 /M48.

You might be very pleasantly suprised. The last time I fired my Type 99 I was hitting an 8 inch steel at 300 yds. Totally amazed me and my adult son because I'm a lousy shot!

Good information to know C&R. I fully expect it will shoot quite well given my aging 69 year old eyes. The peep sight, regardless of its size will greatly aid "finding" a now all too often hard to see front sight when shooting my milsurps with v notch rear sights.
