U.S. Army or Marine Sniper Rifle Specs

I will be real general in this question. . . .

Can anyone tell me the standard Army or Corp sniper rifle these days or is there such a thing as "standard" anymore?

A friend asked and I suspect he would like to build an approximation for target shooting and his own amusement. I told him I thought the Remington 700 was the basis, but I think he had in mind trigger, barrel and bolt perhaps along with any specific mods done to suit individual requirements.

Thanks for any and all responses to this. He is a longtime bolt gun guy, but I told him you would know if any place on the internet would.

My brother and I use the Remington 700, with detachable magazine, here in Pennsylvania; it's highly accurate, has a smooth action and a perfectly positioned safety.

The Marines are also using a Remington based bolt gun - the M40.

I have one of the M40A1 copies by Mike Lau of Texas Brigade Armory that is very accurate. Take a look at their website for some ideas.
