Question New Member - Lithgow Enfield No.1 Mk3 rifle?

Hello, I currently own a Savage Enfield No. 4 Mk1*, and a Lithgowicon Enfield No.1 Mk3 rifle. I am restoring the Lithgow from sporter to near original. My new stock has a slot in the forend for part I have not been able to identify. Attached is a picture of the part. Can someone please tell me what it is??? Thanks.

If you're referring to the volley sight pictured, check the MKLicon...

    Does this help?
