TEL. STG. No 32 Mk3

I recently acquired in the U.K a TEL. STG. No 32 Mk3 for eventual fitting to Rifle No 4 Mk I of mine.

The scope is fitted to its correct mount with the manufacturer Mark N92 and a previous rifle serial number of AR 9530 visible there on

The armourers numbered marks are visible on the clamps also.

I would be grateful for any further information on this sight together with an indication as to the date of manufacture (Which may be visible under the mount).

The scope appears to function well and has for the most part clear optics, (Very slight misting to the centre of the graticule).

Can anyone give me contact details please for someone in the U.K. who can refurbish and repair such sights?

Yours is a Taylor Hobson produced Mk3 scope, but you won't find a date as TH Co did not date theirs (some manufacturers did & some didn't), though I suspect the odds are it would date from 1945 (Pete, do you know if TH Co continued production into 1946? - I know Kershaw did). Both the scope & the bracket are a very nice find.

And yes, I believe Fultons have access to a chap who is quite adept at repairing No32's. I think he's done at least half a dozen!

Rather than fitting your scope to an "ordinary" No. 4 Mk. I, which permanently buggers up the rifle, I would suggest looking for a real No. 4 Mk. I (T) to put the scope on. In addition to rifles that have become scopeless over time, there were about 3,000 if is estimated, that were partially converted - I.e. scope pads installed but never had a scope assigned to them.

Ideally find the rifle that this scope was originally matched to at the factory or later matched to in the military. Difficult? Yes, but not impossible. The internet makes this possible. I have built up a database with over 1,000 No.4 T and L42A1 rifles (not all survive) and I have found rifles numbered to two of my No. 32 scopes. Finding is one thing though and obtaining is another.

A matched set would be by far the most satisfying (I.e. accurate) and the most valuable and would appreciate in value the most over time. A mismatched set would still be quite valuable. A set with rifle or scope being "not the right thing" (a clone) would be of far less value. In other words, finding a real No.4 T to put your scope on is well worth the effort. I recently purchased one such rifle (a 1943 BSA) out of the USA and fitted an original No.32 Mk. I scope and bracket to it.

If the OP has intentions of trying to track down the rifle the number of which is shown on the scope bracket - it's a 1943 BSA Shirley rifle he needs to look for. If the OP's scope is 'original' to that bracket then we must also accept that the rifle had already been rescoped as Mk3's didn't exist in 1943!

Mind you, as seaforth72 indicates, I would seriously endorse trying to find a genuine 4T on to which to fit the scope & mount (if at all possible for the OP). Even a (real) mismatch is quite valuable these days....

Is it something I have said - or something I haven't said....., yet!" that is from the great man himself and I ain't sayin nuthin'............
All I had ever done was praise this persons work on this site as I have seen personally 2 scopes that he had refubished for a friend who collects 32's who lives @7 Klms away from me and no way am I poking my hand into a snapping turtles jaws again.........End of discusion

Thank you to all, a wealth of information there from the most knowledgable people in the game. I will start looking for that illusive BSA and get the scope some tlc in the meantime.
