L96 A1 at the Phoenix (Bisley)

Sniper rifles are not really my thing but there was an L96 ex police rifle at the Phoenix arms fair at Bisley last weekend. It was said to be with its CES and was said to have been sitting in a rifle clubs cupboard for the last fifteen years, it was not priced but an "offers invited" sign was on it, I know that the figure of £20,000 had already been refused.
On a slightly different note the "Phoenix" was the last trade show to be held at the pavillion as they are converting it to classrooms and a conference centre, the current NRA managment seem hell bent at destroying the well established culture of Bisley and all the tradition that it stands for in the pursuit of short term financial gains, but then bankers have been doing that for years...
The "Phoenix" may yet rise from the ashes as there is talk of running trade shows in a marquee but I am not going to hold my breath.

A Collector's View - The SMLE Short Magazine Lee Enfield 1903-1989. It is 300 8.5x11 inch pages with 1,000+ photo’s, most in color, and each book is serial-numbered. Covering the SMLE from 1903 to the end of production in India in 1989 it looks at how each model differs and manufacturer differences from a collecting point of view along with the major accessories that could be attached to the rifle. It's an early (1987) PM from a "Northern" police force. I didn't think that the CES was "Complete". The serial number is only one along from the one that a certain Wiltshire dealer has had advertised at £15k for over 6 months, so don't think they'll get £20k for it. It is ex Police after all. Whereas if it were an ultra scarce "UA" serialled one then please get behind me in the queue........
