glad to join this one.
I got my hands on this Henrybut as a non connaiseur i'm think this is the right place to ask for some advice.

Actually, apart from knowing this is a Martini rifle and apart from wachting Zulu a triljon times with my grandfather on rainy sundayafternoons i could use all info out there.

I hope my pictures will satisfy, dont hasitate to ask me any questions

So...what is it you want to know? It needs almost everything and the barrel has been cut down, sight added. The butt has dry rot...how's the barrel?

Condition; very bad - poor - ok - good - mint ?

Condition very bad, it has no wood...the stock is decayed. The barrel is shortened and the metal needs bluing. The barrel is not correct as it's been cut down. It's rusting inside...it needs everything...

There should be some identification on the side of the receiver which I can't see from your pictures, stating the maker, mark etc. I would hope that you didn't pay much for this gun? Are you hoping to shoot it? If so I would take it to an experienced gunsmith first before making any attempt to do so. It would appear from what remains of it to be a MK1 or 2.

Have a look on the front part of the lower receiver close to where the barrel attaches and if it's of Enfield manufacture there should be a true manufacture date. This will likely be in the form of, for example, 5/77 implying made in May 1877 as an example. Enfield's year didn't run from January to December like everyone else's but ran from the middle of one year until the middle of the following year. If there was a date on the side of the receiver of your Martini it would be not uncommon for it to be a year different to the true date marked on the front of the receiver. I am slightly relieved to hear that you don't intend to shoot your Martini. I believe that newly made woodwork sets are available but would suggest that you try to find a secondhand set which, in my opinion, would look more in keeping with the condition of the gun.

As UK suggested attain the wood fitting the condition of the rifle put it together and have it as a wall hanger as you said it was gifted, your not going to use it and it will bring back memories of you sitting with your granddad watching Zulu Wars........
