    L39 A1 or L42A1

    I'm looking for either an L39A1 and/or an L42A1.

Anyone offer an opinion as to what a fair price for each would be?

    Thanks

    L39A1 rifles are cheaper.

Basically whatever the on-line bidding places it at, these generally come up on gunbroker and go for more than 900 with no sights a wee bit ratty. With a compete set of sights and like new looking, something north of 1200. At least that was the last prices I saw them go for on gunbroker.

My recollection is the total number of L39A1 and L42A1 rifles imported by Navy arms in the early/mid 1990s were 637, with about a 50% split of each. Some of the L42A1 rifles were in pieces and incomplete I got mine that way.

The L39 is a much rarer rifle than the L42, but the "Sniper" status of the latter bumps the price up considerably. Here in UKicon, L39s tend to be around about £600-£700 at dealer prices, even for a good one. L42 on the other hand seem to start at....well, name your price anywhere north of £3000 (for just the rifle and scope).

Harry, you'd be lucky to get a No4T for that price, L42's are around the £10000 mark for a CES........

I'm happy to be behind the times with the L39 price; because I've got one already
The huge prices being asked for L42s, however, sadly mean, I'll never own one.

Harry-Mac I think you might be a bit behind the times with those prices. They've moved up quite a lot in the last year or two. If you have a secret supply of L42's at that price let us know

An L42 sold on gunbroker last month for $5300. On proxibid, an L42 sold for $5500, and an L39 went for $1700. I have seen two other L39's sell in the last nine months at different auction sites for $1900 and $2100. All three L39's were fitted with 303 magazines, relegating them to single-shot use only.

I think the .303 No4 magazine is correct for the L39 though..

I would have to agree Geoff, L42's north of £9,500 and climbing very fast. More price movement with No4T's, depending on originally, completeness and condition.

Might also be (partially) a result of being more expensive as being someone in the UKicon and purchasing something calculated in Euro, thinking of the change in currency rate which we've had in 2016.
