A Collector's View - The SMLE Short Magazine Lee Enfield 1903-1989. It is 300 8.5x11 inch pages with 1,000+ photo’s, most in color, and each book is serial-numbered. Covering the SMLE from 1903 to the end of production in India in 1989 it looks at how each model differs and manufacturer differences from a collecting point of view along with the major accessories that could be attached to the rifle. I read it but...does he claim it's original or put together? I'll probably be shouted down again but the lower stock group looks sanded, the buttplate is almost proud of the metal, the front sight pin looks to be hanging out one side...there are other things. That's a lot to pay for a collection of parts if it is...hope the buyer is happy.
    Regards, Jim

Your right Dude in general they don't. The IP in question is a put together. Stock is wrong and should be an I cut, receiver appears to have been polished, a third of the Rock-Ola barrels sent to IP were not delivered till the end of March 1943 and IP was already shut down. The serial number is a 1.76 which would have been used well before March as it is not on an S'G' receiver. My 1.77 has an Underwood 1-43 barrel as an example. Not worth anywhere the price it brought.

I watched this auction too, on another note I was curious about the document shown in picture 38 & 39 that show a broken receiver and a broken stock, was this a official document or what ??

    Thanks Chris

    Thumbs up Live Auctions?

I am glad to see the live auction posting are shown. I think the forums that don't show them are missing a great teaching tool. They seem to think to many sellers would promote their own sells and then the forum would be thought of helping the seller. That might happen but I have been on these forums long enough to know that few sellers would be able to promote without being called out. The thing is a lot of things are sold as original but after they sell they go into somebodies collection and don't see the light of day again until they are "for sale" again. Then the learning tool is missed again.

Posting live auctions hurts some buyers/bidders, as it draws attention to something many people wouldn't have noticed. It helps buyers who hadn't seen the item yet though. It's how I got my first Rockola flip sight and a couple of other things I might not have noticed.
