    03A1 stock

I have a stock which I believe is an A1 stock but don't know for sure, maybe it's a late 03. It is a "C" stock with two proof stamps behind the trigger guard, an "S" in the cutoff groove, and what looks like "RAWI" inside a box belowthe receiver on the left side. It's very weak and hard to see. Also the stock does not have the relief cut for an A3 handguard collar. If anyone can give me any info on it would appreciate it.

You do indeed have an M1903A1 stock and the inspection stamp is "B.A.-W.L.", which is the inspection stamp of Benecia Arsenal. Most M1903A1 Type C stocks were used at other arsenals and depots BESIDES Springfield Armory.

    Hope this helps.

Liam, it sounds like a Type C stock (which would made made a M1903 a M1903A1) made at Springfield. The "RAWI" stamp is actually a BAWL stamp, indicating a rebuild or inspection at Benecia Arsenal, in California.

I'm going to assume that you mean a pre-war "C" stock that was originally assembled onto a rifle at Springfield Armory.

Need to remember that the U.S. Army classified any M1903 Springfield with a "C" or scant stock as a M1903A1.

FWIW; AFAIK; IMHO; YMMV; yadda, yadda, yadda.

Just to answer any questions about origin, I will exlpain where The stock came from. The stock came to me attached to an 03A3 rifle, I noticed after removing it from the barrel and action that it did not quite fit right. Later I found out by asking about another stock that it should have the 03A3 hanguard ring relief to fit properly. It was something I had not known about.
I hope this satisfies any question about origin.
