Just been told about your magnanimous offer Simon.

I have what I am told is an Enforcer, but not sure.

It is marked "No 4 Mk 2"

It has serial number N 2117

It has the Parker Hale hammer forged barrel, and did have a Parher Hale PH 5C sight on it ... now replaced with a tele.

Hope you can tell me something about it.

Oops ! Sorry didn't realise you had already replied to my previous. I'm new to this forum thing !

Thanks for the info. Parker Hale Target rifle sounds about right. That what I was told it was when I bought it. Lots of people have been telling me it's an Enforcer. Now I know the definitive answer.

Been pondering about joining the forum for a while being the owner of a 1918 Lithgowicon No1 Mk111 and an Enfield No7 Mk1 but never quite got round to it.

I have finally been spurred into action by the fantastic service you are offering and the fact that I acquired Enforcer 745 3 days ago. Any information you may have on this rifle gratefully received.

    Glenn,

Rifle number 745 has no despatch information recorded so it is therefore very likely to be one of the rifles assembled by Charnwood Ordnance. Charnwoods purchased an unknown number of receivers / barrels / woodwork etc from Enfield at the end of their production run and assembled them at a later date.

AlanDeEnfield may be able to shed a little more light on it for you.

    Cheers,

    Simon.

    Simon,

Many thanks for the prompt and informative response. I had suspected as much given the very good condition of the rifle, and that I believed a rifle with a slightly lower number than mine had come out of CO. I purchased this rifle from a private seller who had no information to offer, and the dealer he purchased it from also did not have any information on it so any news is good news as they say. Despite having no police provenance I am greatly pleased to posses one of these rifles and intend to try it out at the range in the morning.

    Keep up the excellent work.

    Hi Ronald,

Rifle serial number V36426 was part of batch number 46 which consisted of 13 weapons and has a recorded conversion date of 14th December 1971.

I can't help you on the scope serial number sorry, but Perhaps if Peter reads this he may have the number recorded as a scope that has passed through his care at some time.

    Cheers,

    Simon.

Nope to that one Rumley. Many other L1A1's are within the same serial number range though

Hi Mas sorry no aditional information apart from what you already have been told - however you are only 20 miles away from me so drop me a pm as I no longer have any 7.62 rifles but still have a quantity of ammunition - including 1 unopened box (20 rounds) of the original Radway Green that was the ammunition that the Enforcer was 'designed' to shoot
Mine are not the best, but they are not too bad. I can think of lots of Enfields I'd rather have but instead of constantly striving for more, sometimes it's good to be satisfied with what one has...

    Alan! it's over to you.

    Cheers,

    Simon.
Liverpool Police only ever purchased four (4) Enforcers, I am working my way down the various forces with freedom of information requests by number of rifles purchased.
I so far have information from the following 'forces' :
    Durham
    Derbyshire
    The Met
    Suffolk
    Devon & Cornwall
    Glasgow
    Manchester
    Sussex

Thank you Simon and Peter. Can I assume that if the scope number stamped on the rifle butt complies then that is reasonable provenance?
