    Many thanks Simon,

I have since had some recent information that the rifle was "assembled" at York Guns from original parts but whether the parts were bought up from Charnwood when they closed or supplied at an earlier date can only be surmised. I know that York guns had several Singapore Swedishicon Mauser CG 63 origin sniper rifles quite a few years ago and wondered if there was any connection as serial numbers of Enforcers close to the number on mine have been identified as going to that part of the world.

    Thanks again

A Collector's View - The SMLE Short Magazine Lee Enfield 1903-1989. It is 300 8.5x11 inch pages with 1,000+ photo’s, most in color, and each book is serial-numbered. Any information about L42 No U36063 (recently purchased from Ireland) gratefully received.
Mine are not the best, but they are not too bad. I can think of lots of Enfields I'd rather have but instead of constantly striving for more, sometimes it's good to be satisfied with what one has...

Not quite in keeping with the spirit of this particular thread but anyone who has got a Rank Pullin SS20/L1A1 - 7 IIW night sight for their L42 rifle and who might be missing the softee bag from the carrying case (it tucks into the lid part - if you're lucky!!!), then there's a brand new one on that auction site. Look at item number 1813-3528-6507
