DoD has cut off surplus brass a little OT

The DoD is now requireing all surplus brass auctioned off .50 and smaller be destroyed. Many websites selling surplus, such as Jeff Bartlett, Scharchs and Georgia Arms have posted info about it also a list of officials to call or write. We should probally all be sending a e-mail to our Rep. right now.
Just another thing to make the ammo problem worse.

Thanks, Curt. I just got an email from NAGR about that, too. Guess we're getting that "change" they promised. And the silly thing is the gov't doesn't make near as with scrap brass as with surplus cases.

I've sent my Rep a letter, asking why this is going on. The de-millers are not going to pay high prices, especially when scrap prices are in the toilet at the moment. They know they can get top dollar from reloaders. Guess this is another case where the government is rolling in so much money, they can afford to throw some more away.

Order has been rescended, but look for the next flanking attack to be a ban of lead use on all Federal and BLM land to save some stupid thing like San Fran Nan's 'Marsh Mouse'.

This crap all started with the death of two condors in Kalifornia. With NO scientific evidence, the elite intelligentsia informed the wildlife people that these deaths were attributable to lead bullets and shot being fired by hunters. So the buffoons in Sacramento passed a law forbidding use of lead bullets in the condors hunting range. FYI, they are now talking about extending the ban state-wide. All on the basis of two dead birds that happen to have lead in their systems.....and evidently no "scientific curiosity" to find how it got there. Where's the Obamassiah on this one? I thought the guy was big on "science"?

    Good News!

As 5:30, 3/17/09, DOD rescinded their directive to demill all surplus brass. For details see the Outdoor Wire or Georgia Arms and Ammo websites.

This action was only possible because of Sen. Baucus and Sen. Tester of Montana. They sent a fax to DOD at 4:30 making an inquiry and 1 hour later got a fax from them saying that they would change the directive.

WE ALL owe a debt of thanks to these two Senators. Without their efforts 223 and 308 would have been $1.00 per round very soon.

    Email them and thank them.
