A Collector's View - The SMLE Short Magazine Lee Enfield 1903-1989. It is 300 8.5x11 inch pages with 1,000+ photo’s, most in color, and each book is serial-numbered. Covering the SMLE from 1903 to the end of production in India in 1989 it looks at how each model differs and manufacturer differences from a collecting point of view along with the major accessories that could be attached to the rifle. Green would be an enamel like the Carl G and their SMGs?

That is a lovely early AW, is it built on an L96 receiver with the safety hole welded up?

No, I'm going to stick to black, as it's more appropriate for this particular model. Wish I could hunt down a regular AW though! Any time I come across them, they're a bit more than I really want to pay. Haha.

I've had to settle for an AT - and not green, though I do have access to spray paint.... ;-)

An AT is basically an AW with the AWM 6 segment bolt.

It does not loo like anything has been welded up.
It looks that the skin on that side does dip down to make room for an L96 positioned safety.

A lovely early AW, would love to know how it made it's way to Aus.

The very early ones were the trial versions, hence welded L96 receivers. See this trials rifle from another forum

I think it may have been a trials rifle before the SR98 was adopted.
