    Vietnam, still using the M16A1

    Hi all,

I found this interesting picture of Vietnamese reserve use of the M16A1.

Apparently they are still used and locally refurbished, with new locally made plumb coloured furniture.

I certainly never saw one in this configuration in the early 90's when I travelled there, plenty still in use in standard A1 configuration back then, but none obviously refurbished.

Interesting, I would love to see more detailed pics.

We left over 3/4 of a million of all versions of the M16icon rifle in Vietnam when the US left there.

I'll bet they sure strip easy now. Not a lick of finish left on that one either. Wonder what the inside looks like?

I'll wager a 'bit 'loose Jim, probably rattles like a pocket full of loose change when shouldered!

I wonder if the furniture is 3d printed??

I should think. Ours were loose as a goose after ten years of handling.

I have seen photos of captured M16icon rifles that were re-stocked in some type of wood, during the war period.

A set of that furniture would make for an interesting addition to an M-16 collection.

It certainly would, the bright yellow plastic butt plate screams 3d printing to me...

One would expect if the Chinese decided to pour into the Lang Son Valley again (I think they still feel the world of hurt the Vietnamese dished out to them in 79) they would be spraying the furniture and the bright gleaming aluminium matt black a bit bloody quick...

Looks like someone needs to teach him the correct way to mount his sling too.
