    M38 carbine purchase- ID

Hello, went to a small local auction yesterday to pick up some fishing gear and they brought out a few guns that were not listed and I bought this one. I’m not very familiar with SB weapons but based upon the condition I decided to bid. It’s all matching with plenty of cartouches etc. I’m not sure if the stock is a modified M38 or M44 as it has a groove for the bayonet. It’s a 1941 izhevsk with a dark sling. All the cartouches are Triangles, etc so it appears that it wasn’t worked on at another arsenal. I can post more photos if needed. Any comments are appreciated, regards.

That's an M44 stock, you can tell by the bayonet groove on the top right side. Perfectly normal for a post war refurb. Note the magazine floorplate has had the original serial ground off then re-stamped to match the barrel. Nothing at all wrong with that just a part of it's history.

    Nice find, that's a keeper.

Is it counter-bored? Not uncommon with these.

    Doesn’t appear to be.

Shoot it in the dark. Muzzle flash is a blast. Literally and figuratively.
