Remington mid channel internal stock marking.

I have half a dozen Remington 03 and 03A2 stocks loose and on rifles.

All have a serif capital letter in the mid channel area of the stocks rifle bed, approximately located at the lower band's, retaining spring area. Some are upside down or sideways, but all have them

    ,
    I have a couple A's, E's mostly and a B.

Anyone ever notice this, or have seen other letters?

The letters you describe are subinspection marks and are not exclusive to Remington stocks. The letters indicate that certain stock dimensions pass gauge inspection. Springfield Armory also stamped a subinspection mark in that location. The letters identify the subinspectors.
