    USMC 1903 reference materials

I am trying to trace the history of the low number SA 1903 I have that has been through several rebuilds. I believe it is a USMC receiver as it has a hatcher hole and marks on the barrel and receiver that look like they came from plumbing tools. Can anyone point out reference materials that might help me. I did find a web page with serial numbers for USMC rifles and mine falls withing a range listed but is not specifically listed. TIA.

A Collector's View - The SMLE Short Magazine Lee Enfield 1903-1989. It is 300 8.5x11 inch pages with 1,000+ photo’s, most in color, and each book is serial-numbered. Covering the SMLE from 1903 to the end of production in India in 1989 it looks at how each model differs and manufacturer differences from a collecting point of view along with the major accessories that could be attached to the rifle. Very few USMC rifles are documented by serial number. But it never hurts to try. Most USMC rifles are identified by a preponderance of characteristics such as those you mention, i.e., Hatcher Hole and barrel vise marks. If you could post some pictures, we can offer some opinions.

    Thanks for participating.
