It will pick up a round, chamber it, extract it, and eject the round, if not fired. Of course, the extractor is the only thing holding the case in place. Probably would fire, but not sure if the strike would pop it off the extractor. Chamber pressure might force the case back under the extractor, but that would probably break it fairly quickly. Cycling would most likely be dodgy at best.

A Collector's View - The SMLE Short Magazine Lee Enfield 1903-1989. It is 300 8.5x11 inch pages with 1,000+ photo’s, most in color, and each book is serial-numbered. I've got the same holster, but it's unmarked. Evidently meant to fit several different pistols, as it has the dual locking slots, and the mag pouch is a bit oversized for the smaller mags.

I posted this on Facebook and got a few comments on the unavailability of ammunition. Gun Jesus entered the discussion with a comment about waiting three years for Steinel to make it and Steinel replied that it has actually been three years and two months and it was Starline that was holding things up. But added that they finally got this long-delayed order and were producing it now with expected deliveries in a couple of weeks.

If you want some, better get your order in.

Ammo has arrived. My timing on this purchase was just right I guess. Hard to tell how long it will be before they make another batch.
