    some Germanicon WW1 fighters like the D3, triplane & D7 used black and white stripes as a very effective camouflage.

    The Germans experimented with 'Dazzle' camouflage also as well as painted fake bow waves on some of their ships in an attempt confuse the enemy as to how much lead to input into their firing solutions. I've posted a photo of the Graf Spee taken by some wag who called the fake bow wave a 'moustache'.
