    April 25th in Italy

Today, like every year, Italyicon celebrates the “liberation from nazifascism”. We lost a war in a horribly humiliating way… but we celebrate.
Instead of dedicating this day to mourning and meditation, it still is a very divisive celebration.
We had a pretty weak and divided partisan movement after September 8, 1943, with democratic, monarchic and communist partisans. They were not decisive, the “reds” killed lots of innocents and also wanted Italy to enter the communist hell…
Now, 79 years later, we have only the “reds” really ruling the scene during a day that, in my very humble opinion, should be dedicated to meditation and mourning for what a highly civilised population could get involved into. But… no. Those fans of Stalin are still there, telling us all that they were the liberators, forgetting a few hundred thousand Allied solidiers who did 95% of the job. In the meantime, the “reds” were killing more civilians than enemies…
Every year, since I’m no red, this date puts me in a state of deep demoralisation…
I understand what happened, but being tought by criminals like those who think they won in 1945 really makes my blood boil.
    I hate this day…
    So, I celebrate San Marco!

I knew a man here that was a gun business wholesaler, came to Canadaicon after the war. He still spoke poor and broken English after 45 years... Apparently had to escape Italyicon as he'd had a falling out with another young man and killed him accidentally in a consensual fight. The young man was the son of the local sheriff, also the head of the local Red Brigade faction. Had to escape or else...
    Regards, Jim
