Japanese Type 30 Bayonet
My father-in-law brought back from the Pacific in 1945 what I have been able to ID as a Japanese
TYPE 30 bayonet with National Denki (under Kokura) arsenal markings. It has a bright finish blade, fullers, a straight & contoured cross-guard, a contoured wrap-around & riveted grip and a flat sided birdshead pommel. The pommel has a number 5516 stamped on the end of the birdshead. With the bayonet is a steel sheath with the "leather-like" belt loop attachment, neither of which have a single mark on them.
The entire outfit is in excellent condition with no rust or pitting. Some discoloration is visible on the sheath. I hope that I am in this kind of conditon when I am this old!
My question is what kind of value should it be insured for. Since it is an heirloom it will not be leaving the family.
Thanks

Hank,
Would you post a link, or two, to one of these $25-$45 auctions on eBay for a Type 30 bayonet in that condition? I would like to pick up a handful of them for that much.
Thanks!

A quick EBAY search for Bayonet and JApan or Arisaka
will bring up a large number of the type for sale at anyone time.

Only if in very poor condition, last one i bought was 70 but it came with something else i wanted and I mis Id'd it in a hurry but didnt hurt too bad. I havent watched many arisakas in agesa s the ones i need are all in the 200+ range (since i got my T1 and marine the 2 of the 3 "big boys" have been taken out of play leaving the mid range ones) I see them at that sort of price in poor condition but dont see what they sell for, my guess woudl be closer to 100-150 for a near mint common maker on a good day.
