Heads up! Marstar has posted pricing on repro STG44's, etc.
Check here if interested:
http://www.marstar.ca/gf-SSD/index.shtm
While not real milsurps, they are exact repros and given the volume of interest on the various forums, It thought it worthwhile to post the stuff here.
Interestingly, the MP38 clone is the most expensive rifle, probably because the maker isn't able to do bakelite and having to outsource would raise the price.
I've been speaking to the importer and they tell me the original company that supplied the bakelite for the WW2 guns is still around and making the bakelite for the repros on the same moulds. Interesting stuff, huh?

Prices don't look too bad. I'm not in to the German
guns or else I would jump on the chance to buy the 3008 model for $2395.

Interesting.
I dont have $3000 to blow on an STG_44, but I'd definatly love to take one out for a spin.

Given that the maker is not a large concern, and that they are going to produce the FG42, they will probably be up to their ears in work.
With the 3008 experience, they could easily produce a Mk. II Sten reproduction, though. It would be ironic if a 3008 clone were reworked to produce a Sten. Of course any serious decently equipped machine shop could make 3008/Sten reproductions.
John reported on one of the CGN threads that the 38 and 3008 fire from the open bolt. From the shooting reproduction standpoint, that is excellent news, because a closed bolt version is just plain different to handle and shoot. Difference between a Sterling Police Carbine and one of the US version semi autos.
I've always been interested in Stens, going back to when I owned a couple in the "good old days". Might just have to see what could be liquidated to make room for a 3008.
Claven2 - did your copy of "Desperate Measures" arrive?

I considered whether I could modify the magwell on the 3008 to a sten type, but then I get to start all over with the CFC over what part is the firearm. Would be nice if the gun took the cheapo sten mags instead of an expensive german mag. Also, looking at the length of those mags, there is a lot of wasted space when you consider that they will be limited to 5 rounds. You would almost need a wheelbarrow to carry all the mags you would need to shoot 120 rounds in a competition.
Way to go Marstar. Nice to see this kind of stuff entering the country. It may have two effects: it may help the arguement that these legal versions have little except their lineage todiffer them from the prohibs, and that the prohib status doesn't make any sense, or else they will get caught up in a semi auto ban somewhere in the future.
In the meantime, I am looking forward to seeing some of this stuff show up in the future battle of the bulge service matches here in Shilo.

I wont be buying one, and heres why.
People who will be buying one, might have to sell some of their milsurps from their collections in order to pay marstar.
BTW, I think the price on the stg is very fair.
Hence, hopefully I can pick up some nice milsurps

Nope. The e-bay seller tried to rip me off by never shipping it & I had to contest the charge on my Mastercard to get the $ back.
I'll buy another copy eventually, but I used the cash to buy Brophy's 1903 Springfield book instead.

Wanna buy some of my milsurps Sigi? lol...
Actually, I'm saving up for something else, though not entirely unrelated. (HUGE hint).

Its funny, I always study your for sale post carefully, cause I know I'll get a good rifle/pistol for its fair value, but the mosin havent really caught on, yet....
Have any M1
carbines, or maybe a nice p.38?
-
LOL. I had a WW2 correct Std. Prod. M1
carbine, but flipped it last week privately. No P38's at present, but I come into them pretty often.
For investment buying, my secret is to watch the US market. When something catches on BIG there, the Canadian market is about 4 years behind or so. Right now Finn and rare Russian
Mosins are THE "in thing" right now in the states. Finns have tripped in price in the last 2 years. in about another 2 or 3 years they will double in value in Canada
- mark my words. When that happens, I'll probably cash out and get into a new genre.
I've already done it with Enfields, French
rifles, Contract S&W revolvers, Mausers, and now Mosins. Who knows what it'll be next. Along the way, I keep some of the best pieces and end up with a rather nice core collection.
