Nice clean rifle! With a MW of 1 that barrel should give you excellent on target results. I've no idea what the M/W might mean. Hopefully someone else will know. Sincerely. BruceV.

I've had several marlin barrels over the years, most have been excellent shooters. I'm down to only one now,it's on a 2.3 WRA "grenade rifle". Its a tackdriver, measures 1 on each end.

I have a Marlin barrel on a Springfield the DCM sent me. I don't have the tools to measure it but it shoots good.
The W looks like an inspectors stamp.

The punch marks on the barrel is to tighten up the fit between the middle band and the barrel. It's a bad fix. I think it's a lot easier to get a new middle band.

Nice to see other Marlins out there. I got one on a CMP
SG 6 digit s/n. It is also a good shooter!! Have fun ;-)

It's SOP on a match build with GI parts, as is peening the middle band itself. The diameter of the barrel at that point was not well-controlled. A new middle band is just as likely to be loose as the last one you tried. The fit at that point in a commercial match build (like a McCoy) is controlled by turning that point on the barrel slightly oversize. You don't have that luxury with a GI barrel.
