Lots 'o' Projects and Questions
hello all iu am a n00b to the site but not to the hobby. i have about 4 projects going on currently and have some simple questions
i am replacing the stock on my 1916 mauser gew98 and waas wondering how to finish the stock (tung oil, linseed oil
?) and do i use any kind of clear coast like shelac?
i will be starting an enbfield no 4 MKI project soon and was wondering how the metal was finished? parkerizing? blued?
more questions soon and thanks a lot in advance.

what finishes were used on the following stock and did any use a clear coat or shelac?

Hi Sturmsoldaten,
I can't say for all the rifles you listed, but I can say that for a Lee Enfield, it is linseed oil
that goes on the wood. I can also say that shellac is something the Russian
used on their rifles (Mosin Nagant, SKS, SVT); I doubt it would have been used on the other rifles you listed.
As far as metal finish, for the No4Mk1, I have seen some blued and some finished with "Suncorite" if I remember correctly, altough I'm not sure. You could post in the "Enfield Knowledge Library
" section of this forum or do a quick search, this topic may have been discussed. When I do my refurbs, I usually don't refinish the receiver and barrel (although I have reblued some bits and pieces at times; handguard retaining bands for example).
