Dad's Service Rifle
Are there any resources out there that will assist in determining the serial number assigned to an individual. I would be interested to see if I can locate my fathers service rifle that he was issued in boot camp. I know it is a long shot but thought I would give it a try.
Thanks
John

I do not know of any resource where you would find such information. Is your dad still alive? If so, ask him if he remembers the serial number. You might be surprised. My dad remembered the "USA
" hood number for the jeep he had during WWII. If he has passed then look through his paper work for a range book or work book that may reveal the number. Good luck in your search.

Those kinds of records typically weren't kept above a Unit-level, and weren't kept very long....meaning they weren't archived. If he doesn't know the SN, then you've got a LOT better chance winning the Powerball Lottery than finding a record that tells you! Locating the actual rifle if and when is even MORE problematic! Sorry...it was a rather "biggish" war that happened going-on 70 years ago!

If you find a marksman score book in his belongings, it may have a serial number there. Good luck.
