A Collector's View - The SMLE Short Magazine Lee Enfield 1903-1989. It is 300 8.5x11 inch pages with 1,000+ photo’s, most in color, and each book is serial-numbered. Covering the SMLE from 1903 to the end of production in India in 1989 it looks at how each model differs and manufacturer differences from a collecting point of view along with the major accessories that could be attached to the rifle. For the record this is not a moneymaker, I hope just to break even, eventually, at $80/book plus shipping. In the USA shipping is $5.00 for media mail. I will accept PayPal, Zelle, MO and good old checks (and cash if you want to stop by for a tour!). CLICK BANNER to send me a PM for International pricing and shipping. Manufacturer of various vintage rifle scopes for the 1903 such as our M73G4 (reproduction of the Weaver 330C) and Malcolm 8X Gen II (Unertl reproduction). Several of our scopes are used in the CMP Vintage Sniper competition on top of 1903 rifles. Brian Dick ... Nice Remington from early production. Aren't 1903A1's inter-war produced Springfield products with very specific characteristics including a grooved trigger and C-stock and a set range of production dates? Scope and set-up is really nice!

Technically, a M1903A1 was any 1903 with a Type C (or even a Scant) stock. Sniper rifles of the type shown (with Unertl scopes) were originally made mostly from late Springfield receivers.

    i disagree.
only a rifle sold as a 1903A1 through the DCM, in the right serial number range would be a genuine 1903A1,
i have yet to see a Remington or a Rockisland listed as a A1,
    unless, someone has uncovered one????

I think we've been down this road before, Chuck -- definitely an "agree to disagree" topic!!

This is my restored 1918 CMPicon Springfield 1903.
It is a Greek Return "C" Stock with a 1942 Springfield Barrel.
I replaced the original "C" stock with a NOS Springfield Stock...and I did not touch the black-charcoal parkerizing.
I also respectfully disagree with your position that only 1903A1's made within a certain period are true 03A1's. This unit was refinished , I'll assume, by the Ordinance Department when the 1942 Barrel was installed, and I am led to believe any "C" stocked '03 can correcty be termed an "A1".

Here's a picture of a 1903 expert, if you know any of his relatives you can see if he ever spoke about the changeover from scant stocks to "C" stocks and which he preferred.

God Bless his service to the country.
