South Store Report - Wednesday, July 29th
I went to the South Store at noon today - here is a brief report.
M1
rifles: NO HRA rifles. The only M1s in the store are Springfield Armory rifles - you have your choice of field grade or rack grade. There were plenty of rifles to choose from, but a muzzle gage is a must. Most rifles were OK for field grades; I saw no "outstanding" examples. There were no HRA field or rack grade rifles, repeat, no HRAs at all.
M1 National Match rifles: There were about 20 or so M1 National Match rifles, but I think the only thing NM about them were the barrels. The condition on them was good to fair.
Kimber .22s: There was the usual rack of brand-new Kimber .22s, which I consider the best buy in the store.
Mossberg .22s: There was a rack of them, all without the plastic trigger guard.
Woodless M1s: There were about 20 of them, and they were all SAs, mostly WWII with rebuild barrels.
WRA rifles: One rack of them; perhaps 12 or so, with the wood in rather disappointing condition.
1917s: One rack of ten or so ceremonial rifles, with white plastic stocks. Leon said that one of his buddies had bought one with a white stock, removed the paint, and that it would hold the 10 ring at 200 yds. There were about three "salvage" grade 1917s remaining.
1903s: Four total, with one C stock.
Krags: Only a couple of rifles remain - the rest (35 or so) were of the carbine variety.
Carbines: I didn't look at them too closely, but noted a selection of Inlands, Saginaw Steering Gears, and National Postal Meters.
Barreled receivers: There were a couple with decent bores, but I got them (sorry about that
). There remained about a dozen that seemed to be a good buy at $100 each.
Junk barrels: There was still a large rack of junk barrels, but I didn't have time to browse through them.
Carbine magazines: All out of magazines.

Actually Bill, I've come to realize that I'm financially solvent ONLY because I live over 2000 miles from either store.
Otherwise I'm sure I'd be asking The Obamassiah for a bailout!

My goodness Dan, I never looked at it that way. So that's why I have so much spare change?
I don't think you will have to ask for the bailout. In fact, I don't think any of us will have a choice!

Did you happen to gauge the barrels on the woodless garands? Could you elaborate on their condition? Thanks for the information.

No, I didn't gage them. Attached is a photo that someone else took at CMP

Woodless Garand
Does the South Store limit the woodless Garands to SAs?
