That first pic 45/70 caused me a nasty flashback.
I'm with you, I like these conversions, and when I saw a jungle carbine/no1mk3 conversion 7.62? conversion I jumped at it. It had the same dark walnut color as yours.
I took to the range, it was a damp drizzly day. In a few minutes I was black all over it seemed. The 'stain'/color was 100% water soluble, completely dissolvable, and came off on everything, a truly incredible mess.
I stripped it off with a garden hose, and did a proper stain and BLO
on it, much better. A really nice rifle, still wish I had it, despite the navy arms wonky provenance.

i don't need one.... i just want one.
might prefer a park finish, though.
as i recall, they came with a survival fishing kit in the buttstock.
hard to get a deal like that these days.
