Ammo for Harlan...
From another Watering Hole thread - and answer to a question...
Harlan and others....
I have been watching the ammo supply here (Ft Worth) and I have had some spottings of not only .30 Carb but other ammo as well. I was in cabelas today and they had almost every caliber of pistol and rifle you can think of stacked high on the shelves, but they were limiting purchases to two (2) boxes per customer. They had S&B .30 carb last week on the shelf for $22.95 (I wasn't looking today). I was up there lucky enough to pick up some small pistol primers that had showed up today - they said I got the last box. They were out of .30 Carb FMJ & SP bullets (for reloading) but they did have at least 20 packs on the shelf last week. [That means one of you guys here in DFW has a stock pile of 110 gr FMJ & SP and I'm going to track you down!!!]
I was at Walmart in north FTW last week and saw two boxes of Remington .30 FMJ for $25.95 in the case and the Walmart in Saginaw (Texas) had two boxes in stock about an hour ago. I did my regular "walk-thru" of Treat-us-like-dirt (pricing not buying - honest) last week. They had no .30 carb but had everything in stock at high prices. Ok, I admit it, I bought a new bore brush for $2.99 while I was there - BUT I CAN STOP SHOPPING THERE ANYTIME I WANT TO!!!!!
I haven't bought any "extra" ammo lately. I am not greedy and I don't mind leaving ammo on the shelf for other guys to buy their share too. I have a small stock plus I now have some primers, powder and bullets ready for reloading when I get the time. Time seems to be my biggest problem with ammo supply and getting to the range to use it. I have only gone once in the last 2 months and I am having withdrawals! NEED THE SMELL OF GUNPOWDER!!! Does anyone make a gunpowder scented aftershave???
Oh, and small rifle primers I ordered on line in May??? Their delivery date just got extended/projected to 6 to 8 MONTHS down the road. I got enough for a dozen or so trips to the range when I get the time, but I really need to get treatment for this carbine gunfire addiction I have.
Seriously, I will not say that the ammo situation is better than it was in January but it can be found. Reloading is still the way to go. With brass on hand, I am still making it at about $11.75 a box of 50. That is using 2400, over priced primers and Remington 110 gr FMJ & SP at $16 per 100 bullets. Someone wants to use pour lead will make them for alot cheaper.
Harlan, if you need some, let me know. I'll spot you enough for a few trips to the range if you need it. I would hate for you to get TOO old before you go back to the range - you won;t be able to see the targets!!!

I'm getting my walker out and heading for Ft Worth Ed!
Honestly, it's always seemed so strange to me that Dallas and Ft. Worth are this close together but they are like two completely different worlds!
Ed, I drove to 'Dick's Sporting Goods' in North Richland Hills yesterday. I'm getting ready for Archery Season and only needed some fletching cement. None to be found over here (or any other hunting stuff) but I found everything I needed over there, and then some. The tube of cement cost me over $100 by the time I got out of the store!
Thanks again,
~ Harlan

I have only been to Dallas once in the 4 years I have lived in Ft Worth. People told me when I moved here that Dallas county and Tarrant county are two totally different world. I didn't believe them at the time, but its very true. Dallas is just another big city (like Houston or Atlanta). Fort Worth seems to have some of the old west stuck in its veins. I am sure that the better sporting goods, ranges and outdoor things are on this side of the DFW airport. Now, if you REALLY want old-style small town, head out to Weatherford in Parker county. That place reminds me of the old southern towns I grew up in back in Alabama!
I walked thru Dick's - once. If I wanted to pay mall prices I would just head to cabela's or treat-us-like-dirt.
Ok, I'll ask the obvious that everyone reading this wants to know.... a $100 for a tube of cement? What was attached to it when you walked out the door?

They had a bunch of camo hunting clothing on clearance -
(My 16-year-old son outgrew me and nothing I have fits him anymore)
I saved so much money it cost me $95!
