Thumbs up My first Lee Enfield

    Hi all-

Bought my first Lee enfield this week. I got a never issued "Irish Contract" number 4 mk2. I shot it yesterday at the range. I've been looking for a decent Lee Enfield for quite some time. I hit the jack pot, the stars were aligned or was extremely lucky. I don't have a photo yet but the rifle is pristine. I'm excited about something again! Will be shooting again today.

    Excellent web site. blastingcap.

When we saw those around here, they were in the grease and in the wrap. They dried up fast however...

Luckily many people just couldn't stand to see them in the wrap and took them out to shoot. There are a fair amount of them floating around but sans their accessories, No9 bayo and scabbard, sling etc. In Canadaicon they can be had for as little as the $125 they first sold for many years ago to $1000 in the wrap with all accessories. The high end figure is extreme in my opinion but some people are paying the piper for them.

There really isn't anything different about the "Irish contract" MkII rifles, other than their serial number range and that all of them that I've seen, have beech stocks.

Unless they've been fiddled with during degreasing or the stocks have dried out after wrap removal, they all shoot very well.

When the initial frenzy to shoot them fizzled out, many in excellent condition rifles became available at what would now seem like fire sale prices. Now they are commanding higher prices and unless something unforeseen happens, they will become investments again.

We really need someone in Hollywood/Bollywood to make an epic movie of grand proportions, showing off the NoI and No4 rifles in action. Look at what happened to Garands after "Band of Brothers" and "Saving Private Ryan". Also look at what happened to the prices on Frenchicon and Germanicon rifles after the movie "Indigene's" was aired. The lee Enfield Riflesicon played a major part in world development and in my humble opinion are being treated like an ugly, red headed stepchild in the collectors markets.

Why on earth? Unless you are getting out of collecting Enfields, why drive up the prices?

limpetmine, we gun owners in Canadaicon, need all of the help we can get. We need anything that will spark more positive interest in firearms. When movies like Saving Private Ryan and Band of Brothers came out, there was a resurgence of interest and acceptance for a little while. Many people that wouldn't have even thought about buying a rifle, had the itch to try one, just to see what it felt like. A good number of those curious willies had the light switched on and not only bought Garands but other rifles and pistols as well.

Our politicians are a whole different lot up here. They are not used to being questioned and we have been under a constant bombardment of social engineering schemes for the past 50 years, mostly perpetrated by left wing governments. It is only a recent thing for us to have a government that is actually holding back the tide and trying to reverse some of the costly and inherently destructive initiatives that have been force upon the Canadian citizenry. No, I'm not a doomie crackpot. That's just the situation in Canada and it's tenuous at that right now. The whole issue of firearms ownership in Canada is on a razors edge at this moment.
