Remington 03-A3
I picked up an 03-A3 today. It is SN#4134042, excellent condition 2 groove barrel is RA 12-43. Front sight marked R, blued bayo lug marked R, blued front swivel marked R, blued rear swivel marked R, OFF release marked R, safety tab marked R, cocking piece marked R, shroud marked R, extractor ring marked R, bolt head un marked, bolt handle marked O 12 on top of root. All bolt parts are dark..blued? Except for the extractor which is gray parked. The receiver and barrel are gray parked. Trigger assembly blued and marked R...the blued finish is thinned.. The walnut stock is a straight stock, two reinforcement bolts, no finger grooves, with a (P) under wrist, an FJA no box, an ordnance wheel and an R on left side above trigger area. There are several small cartouches on underside of stock just in front of mag area. The rifle has a sewn on white twill sling which leads me to think drill, VFW color guard or cadet use. The rifle is totally functional and shows no compromises that some drill purpose weapons might have. I will post pics later when there is less sun.

If it had been a drill rifle , the stock would be really chewed up. Another indicator would be a discoloration or pitting in front of the mag cut off where it may have been welded.

On closer inspection I can just make out an A next to the R on left side stock.

Congratulations!
You picked up a nice '03-A3 that appears fairly original. The only replacement parts I see are the bolt assembly and the stacking band. Everything else looks original.
Congratulations again. And thanks for sharing!
J.B.
p.s.,
Although the bolt assembly has been replaced, the bolt sleeve and safety lock are correct.

The stacking swivel is R marked. The rear swivel is RP marked. I am going to remove the wood and check out the bare metal. Trigger R marked, follower R marked, follower spring R marked. The barrel has a consistent parked finish under the wood..it has an XA 58 stamp. Receiver has at least 10 circled or squared inspector proofs..large R on right side. I had to walk the front swivel off the hand guard and fore stock...it was really tight.

Please clarify?? - the "Receiver" has 10+ Inspector marks or the stock forward of the Triggerguard?

The stock has several small cartouches on the under side in front of mag assembly..numbers in circles and squares. The receiver has at least 10 proofs revealed when the wood was removed..cirlced and squared enclosed numbers. Most are on the left side of receiver. On the right side of receiver there are a couple more..and also a large R stamped into the metal near the bridge that the front king bolt screws into. I just did a muzzle test with a circa 1951 military round and it looked very good...I need the stone axe gauge! When I first saw the rifle, mixed blue parts, no numbers stamped into the butt stock it seemed like a no brainer at $500.
