Double Struck Inspection Stamp??
The boxed "FJA" was either double struck or someone tried to "enhance" it somewhere along the line.
I was wondering if any of the participants had ever observed an apparent "double strike" on an otherwise correct rifle?
It happens to be a current online auction piece that also went thru RIA auctions a few years ago. Unfortunately not much detail was available from the earlier auction.
Thanks
Regards.
Jim

Looks legit. It is fairly common on M1
Rifle stocks, and even on 1911A1 pistols where it was struck into the receiver.

From my experience, the overwhelming majority of double-struck M1903 inspection stamps are fake. And that one appears to be no exception.
Rifle inspectors had LOTS and LOTS of experience strking inspection stamps. They very seldom made mistakes necessitating a re-strike.

On the pistols they were not re-strikes, but were bounces. Very common. Here is another FJA showing the original heavy strike and the bounce. They are virtually always heavier on one end. On this one you can see almost all the F, about half the J, and just one leg of the A.

And a Colt with a double strike showing the tops of the letters in the bounce.

iv seen more double strikes on pistols then rifles,
id have to hold the one thats on GB before id say fake.
if its the one i think it is..i know it has a replacement scope, rings and cover.
the stock is a early C stock, and it could be a bounce strike...and it could be a restamp.

Chuck its the same piece as is on the Auction you mentioned. It was discussed on Gunboards a couple of days ago.
I can't say i have seen a double strike on an A4 before but then again not many were ever made.

The double marks just show up randomly on anything that was struck by hand.
Here is an Inland M1
Carbine with a double strike. I have owned this one since way before anyone thought of making fake stamps.
