BSA No5 Mk1---1947

Paid retail for this, which is not the usual thing---but it is a 1947 dated M47C.
Pre-68 import, but had a bore stuffed with grease. Some collectors store them that way---so it means nothing, I suppose. Bright bore, matching numbers and overall excellant condition.

I've got BK2868 - also "as new" condition. I wonder if a couple of pallets of these late BSAs were surplussed off in new condition in recent years?

I had a BJ-xxxx in Malaya. A lot of the later ones had this orangy stained pale wood that was always quite soft but easy to patch repair.

Hey guys i have BK2513 in the UK Its a minter too !!!! The imperial War Museum in London has a BK25xx serial numbered rifle too !

If so many stayed in Blighty, that would explain the thin population in the States.
There's one in Australia, too.

Not so sure!! Mine is reported to be from the states, I bought two described as "un fired". Not quite true but still pretty well spankers. One is my BSA BK2513 and the other was a ROF 1947 dated, also mint but with a shorter butt and a slightly lighter colour. Both came from the USA and had fresh new UK proof marks on them.

Sorry, but what's M47C mean? My No.5 MK.1 is also a '47, but I guess it's a Fazakerly (sp?)? So much to learn.....

M47 was the wartime 'secret' code for BSA

M47A was the Small heath factory
M47B was the Redditch, Worcester or Hereford factory
M47C was the Shirley factory
