Help with I cut stock markings: HELP developing
I thought this was worthy of a separate thread, as I an at a loss on one of the markings on my new stock from CMP
, and want suggestions who to develop others.
It is: Type I with "I" cut, high wood intact. I thought it might have been lightly sanded, but it wasn't. I am soaking it in straight, warm BLO
to clean it. The marking that I question is what appears to be "OC" or "DC" in a rectangle about 3/8"x 1/4" on the left side above the trigger housing area.
It has "RMC" stamped in the sling well in small letters (wood is rough milled, and had to soak in BLO
and hold it just right to the light to bring out all three letters). On the right side, I am beginning to see what appears to be a very faint, small, crossed cannon in front of a faint rectangle. I can't read any letters in the rectangle, and can just barely see two sides right now of the rectangle. I know it is a Rockola made stock, but since I can't read the rectangle, I can't tell who for. It came with an SG type III recoil lug.
It also came with a Type I, bull nosed, two rivet hand guard that appears unmarked, so it may be early Winchester according to Reisch.
Ant tips on developing the CC and rectangle? Right now I am soaking with warm BLO, wiping gently with a soft bristle tooth brush, allowing to soak, then wiping with a soft cloth. Repeat process. It will finish REALLY nice, but I would love to develop the CC and rectangle.
I will try some pictures, but other than the "DC" or "OC" and part of the RMC in the slingwell, I won't get much.

"Looking at it in a different angle, it could be "OG" which would be Ogden Arsenal rebuild. Would the OG be in a rectangle, and would it be where it is if it was a rebuild stamp? I would still like help on developing the CC and other Cartouche. I also forgot to mention the stock does have a Type II/III band shadow, but very faint.

AH ha! Uncovered "LW" on the edge of the handguard. It was filled with grunge.
Also, It just dawned on me that I think the cartouche is on backwards. The crossed cannon is towards the butt end, and it looks like the rectangle is towards the muzzle, right next to the CC. I see a "R as the first letter in the end I can see of the rectangle (which is towards the top of the stock), so I am guessing "RMC". Anyone evey see one with the cartouche this way?
BTW, you guys do this all the time? Only one stock and I am already cross eyed and frustrated! Hahahaha! I smell like a bottle of BLO
, too.

RM, that OG is probably SG.

The "OG" or OC in the rectangle on the lefty is very clear. Reisch says that is Ogden, The recoil plate is SG, but a later type III
ADDITIONAL: I just looked in Reisch and it matches the size and direction of a later Rockola CC and RMC. I can only get the "R" and that edge of the rectangle, but the CC is all there, but faint. Pics coming.

Charlie, that's cruel - but funny!!!!
RM, you need to wake up... those catouches are NOT THERE, you are just imagining them.... Its really a well-sanded, M-2 FAT-62 replacement stock made out of cheap Italian
wood.... now repeat after me, "There are no cartouches... there are no cartouches.... There are no cartouches....."
