Late Winchester ?
Today I looked at a 6.6 mil Winnie that seemed to be original except for a type III 'AI' marked barrel band. The WRA proof mark was visible north of the band so it obviously originally came with a type III. It has type II sights and a properly marked type III stock, round 'W' marked type III bolt and what appears to be a bullnose handguard. I didn't get a chance to break it down to peek inside but other than the Inland barrel band and E.I. marked rotary safety, this carbine looked fairly righteous. I could find any reference in War Baby! that Inland may have transferred any type III bands to WRA so I'm scratching my head as to why it would have this band on it. Have any of you seen or heard of a late Winchester coming with a type II inland barrel band?
Thanks in advance!

It should have a type 3 band marked with a C and also a 4 rivet handguard.

I received a late '44 Winchester from CMP
with an Inland Type II front band. I thought it had probably been replaced somewhere along the way. However, with the goal to put out as many guns as possible the sharing of parts between mfg had to be prolific. Our attempt provide finite months and dates that events happened during the war years is probably not totally realistic but a good guideline. Everyone used what they had and begged and borrowed from the others.

Thanks all for the input and I just sent my dues in for the Carbine Club last week. Once I'm in I'll try to order a copy of Carbine Club Newsletter #355 Brian, and check it out.
