Universal M1 carbine price

Hello,

I recently purchased a Universal M1 carbine with a folding paratrooper metal stock. The SN is SS3476. I has dual springs, action lock leaver, perforated metal hand guard, 20" barrel, and adjustable rear sights.

I would like to know the value of the weapon with 2 30/5 rnd magazines and RCBS .30 cal 3 die set.

It's probably worth around $300 - $350 or maybe a little more if it has a Universal folding stock, if you can find a buyer who wants it.

Universals are commercial copies of the military M1 carbine and have no collector value, so the value isn't very high.
Currently common military M1 carbines are selling for a little more than $500 and most people prefer them.

What about the RCBS .30 cal 3 die set.
What's the value added there? I have no idea....

Die set will run you about $40 to $45 new.... then the shell holder, etc.

Used I would probably go $25

(Its the brass that makes it so expensive to reload)

Dillion carbide die set for .30 Carbine is $99.95.
When I bought my RL550 (20 years a ago) it was $29.99.

I see they have listed Remington unprimed bulk brass for .30 carbine. Packs of 100.

1 ..pkg... $23.62
5 ..pkg... $115.15
10 .pkg... $224.30

But says call for availability.

Jim, I have actually passed on several bags of virgin brass at those prices. When you add it up with the cost of bullets, primer, and powder, the bullet comes out to about 45 cents per round. Thats $22.50 a box of 50. I found it easier to buy Remington carbine ammo at Walmart for $25 (when they have it in stock) and shoot it. I save the brass for reloading which runs about $10.50 with Remnington FMJ and SP.

Midway has new RCBS 30 carb dies for $40 right now.

As far as the price on the Universal, the 3rd generation (straight stock) I bought in the 80's is sitting in the back of the safe. I had a pawn shop guy offer me $200 for it, but I am not sure I would feel good putting it back on the market knowing about their out-of-battery issue.

As far as the mags, it will depend on if they are USGI or commercial. A rare USGI can get you some money, but a used commercial 30rd is not worth much at all.

I had bought 5,000 FMJ bullets, and primers many years ago when they were a lot less money. So I haven't had to purchase them lately. But they are now running low. I know I will hate the current prices.

A univeral carbine at a local gun shop just sold for 500 dollars. That was with one 15 rd mag and standard stock.
